Yerba Buena Community Benefit District Passes
On July 29 the Board of Supervisors approved the Yerba Buena Community Benefit District, making it the largest CBD in San Francisco’s history. The final ballot was impressive – 82.96% of the submitted ballots supported the CBD for a total of $1,205,824.13 or 50.58% of the total assessments. Yerba Buena CBD assessments will appear on property tax bills this fall. On August 6 the CBD Steering Committee appointed the CBD’s Interim Board of Directors. The Interim Board will meet for the first time on August 27; all CBD Board meetings are open to the public. The Interim Board will govern the CBD and ensure the services outlined in the Management Plan are implemented; services are expected to begin in January 2009.
Featured Member – Contemporary Jewish Museum
The new 63,000-square-foot, Daniel Libeskind-designed Contemporary Jewish Museum (CJM), opened on June 8. Libeskind's design is an adaptive reuse of the landmark 1907 Jessie Street Power Substation. The new CJM building greatly increases the Museum's space for exhibitions and creates a lively center for engaging audiences with Jewish culture. The Museum includes a store and Cafe on the Square which offers seasonal soups, sandwiches, and salads as well as a contemporary spin on Jewish favorites. Diners may eat inside or outside (weather permitting) overlooking Jessie Square and the Yerba Buena Gardens. The Contemporary Jewish Museum is located at 736 Mission Street and open daily (except Wednesday). Stop by and visit today!
